V-Beam

V-Beam is one of the latest advances in the area of gentle, non-wounding light treatment of the skin. It is a state-of-the-art advancement of a technology that has been tested and used safely on patients for many years.

What can the V-Beam pulsed dye laser treat?

  • The V-Beam laser can treat:

    • Rosacea
    • Facial Veins
    • Leg Veins
    • Scars
    • Psoriasis
    • Crows feet, Wrinkles around the eyes and other facial wrinkles
    • Red birthmarks such as hemangiomas and port wine stains
    • Angiomas
    • Poikiloderma of Civatte (uneven coloring of the neck)
    • Venous lakes
    • Stretch marks
    • Warts
    • Dark Circles under the eyes

How does the V-Beam laser work?
The laser delivers an intense but gentle burst of yellow light to the skin. The light is specifically absorbed by the blood vessels in the dermis. These blood vessels are coagulated and then reabsorbed by the body during the natural healing process.

Is the treatment safe?
Yes. In fact, V-Beam laser treatment is so safe that it has been used successfully for the treatment of port wine stains in infants and young children. The epidermis is protected during the treatment by the V-Beam’s unique dynamic cooling method, DCD, which sprays a cooling mist onto the skin before each laser pulse, increasing the patient’s comfort.

Side effects may include purpura (a laser bruise), redness, and swelling in the treated area. These are transient and usually do not last more than a few hours or days. Permanent side effects such as scarring are rare.

What will the treatment consist of?

  • The laser treatment will include the following:

    • Wearing safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light.
    • A hand piece will be applied to the treatment area by the physician to deliver the laser energy.
    • A spray of cooling mist will be felt prior to each laser pulse.

Is the treatment painful?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort associated with the laser pulse. This feeling has been described by patients as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort is minimized by the Dynamic Cooling Device. In addition, for some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Be sure to discuss this with Dr. Michalak.

What precautions should be taken before and after the V-Beam laser treatment?
It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure before and throughout the course of the treatment. A sunblock ( SPF 30 or above) should be used. The post-treatment care needed depends on what lesion was treated.

Are the procedures covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Some carriers will, however, cover the treatment of disfiguring birthmarks such as hemangiomas or port wine stains. In addition, the treatment of psoriasis and rosacea may be covered by some insurance companies. Please consult your insurance carrier for more details.

Please contact our office to see if the V-Beam laser is the right treatment for you.

Fraxel.com

A unique and proven approach to skin repair
Dr. Michalak is now offering the new Fraxel Laser treatment. This exciting laser treatment improves your appearance by affecting only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of tiny microscopic laser spots. Patients will begin to feel a difference in their skin after the first treatment as the skin becomes gradually softer, smoother and fresher. Fine lines around the eyes will noticeably fade as will uneven coloring and brown spots caused by aging and sun exposure. The Fraxel Laser treatment also offers a revolutionary new way to treat acne scarring as well as other scars.

Fraxel™ Laser treatment is now recognized as the most effective treatment for persistent blotch pigmentation of the facial skin known as Melasma.

This proven safe approach offers no down time and patients will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour with no discomfort. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days. Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in two to three days. Make-up may be applied within hours of treatment.

This dynamic new treatment approach is designed to be used for the face, neck, chest and extremities. Age spots, sun spots and skin damaged skin on the chest, neck and hands can now be safely treated by lasers. Normally 3-4 treatments are recommended at 2-3 week intervals for optimal results. A noticeable difference in skin texture is noted with each treatment.

Revolutionary New!

Facial PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) - Photo Rejuvenation
Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology of Issaquah, Inc. is pleased to offer an exciting new technique for facial and non-facial skin rejuvenation, named PDT (PhotoDynamic Therapy). This technique combines the use of a non-wounding laser and a topical solution Levulan, to produce a rejuvenating affect on the skin unlike any other treatment.

There have been many advances in the treatment of damaged, aging skin in the last few years. PhotoDynamic Therapy is a gentler approach to skin rejuvenation without a lengthy recovery period.

How does one determine if they are a candidate for PhotoDynamic Therapy? If your skin is showing evidence of age and excessive sun or you have a red, flushed face, enlarged pores or blotchy pigmentation, and wrinkles, you are a candidate for this procedure.

PhotoDynamic Therapy has also been used very successfully for patients with Rosacea. This process reduces the redness and flushing caused by Rosacea. Another benefit from PDT is the influence this treatment can make to precancerous lesions and the reduction of precancerous tissue growth, caused by years of sun exposure.

Following the application of Levulan to the skin for a range of 15-60 minutes, the solution is activated by the laser and initiates production of new collagen to improve the elasticity of the skin and simultaneously reduces redness, brown spots and discoloration and surface irregularities.

Depending on the patient, between three and six treatments are performed at 3-4 week intervals to accomplish these significant changes. Recovery is minimal and is generally limited to pinkness of the skin for several hours or several days, depending on the number of treatments desired. Some mild swelling and light flaking of the skin may also occur but is easily concealed until if fades in a few days. Depending on the patient’s skin, the results from PDT may last for years.

Patients having PDT notice that their skin improves with a more even colored tone, smaller pore size, smoother texture and restores a more youthful appearance. PDT therapy is very effective for the face, neck, arms, chest, hands, torso or legs.

Please contact our office for more information or for a consultation appointment to discuss this revolutionary new, minimal recovery rejuvenating technique.
