Juvederm®

A Treatment for Facial Wrinkles and Folds
Juvederm® injectable gel is a popular treatment for the temporary correction of facial wrinkles and folds. Made with stabilized, colorless hyaluronic acid, Juvederm is injected beneath the skin to act as a hydrator and cushioning agent, effectively reducing the appearance of wrinkles for several months.
At Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology of Issaquah, we offer Juvederm as indicated by the FDA, for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
Who Should Consider Treatment with Juvederm?
The majority of patients who undergo this treatment desire a correction of the nasolabial folds, the distinct lines which travel from the sides of your nose to each side of your mouth. Dr. Michalak may also recommend Juvederm for treatment of marionette lines, lip lines and other facial wrinkles around the chin, cheeks and temples.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural component of your tissue. It’s also an excellent filling agent that has become the gold standard for non-surgical wrinkle correction. Since the mid 90s, dermatologists have been using products with HA to fill in wrinkles, folds and fine lines. HA fillers are biodegradable and come in a range of viscosities to correct wrinkles of varying depth.
The Treatment: What to Expect During Juvederm Injection
The doctor will first determine the precise points of injection. After cleansing the skin, Juvederm is injected using a special technique. Inside your skin, the filler combines with your naturally occurring hyaluronic acid and binds with water. The result is increased tissue volume and reduction in apparent wrinkles. To promote a smooth result, the doctor may perform a brief massage of the injected area.
Afterward, you will receive post-treatment instructions to follow. Initially, the treated area may feel fuller than expected. Swelling and bruising can occur, in which case you may be instructed to use an ice pack. Possible side effects (which are usually mild or moderate in nature and short lasting) include redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration.
Are Juvederm injections painful?
There are several ways to control discomfort during a dermal filler injection. Dr. Michalak may use a dental block, topical anesthetic or a product (such as Juvederm XC) that contains the anesthetic lidocaine. It has actually become common to undergo a pain-free dermal filler injection. Ask the doctor for more details regarding your particular treatment application.
